Interning at Salem Global, SEO, HTML

Began an internship yesterday at Salem Global - a NYC based Online Marketing Firm.  I thought it would be worth my while to learn some more of the basics of online marketing firsthand.

He manages a few online accounts- their website marketing and social media - including: facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc.  He also specializes in SEO- Search Engine Optimization of websites showing up in searches in Google, Bing and Yahoo.

SEO is maintained on a regular basis for each company. They do this by checking analytics and keyword searches- using google analytics and a program called WebCEO- which shows you how high the rankings are of that site and the changes over the days. (Looks kind of like the stock market stats.)

On my first day - yesterday, I already learnt some basic HTML and created a mini-HTML document using the skills I learnt through an online tutorial.  It's actually kind of fun!!!  You see a bunch of code and plug it in according to the directions- then you see the results show up in a real readable form! The cool thing is - it just looks and sounds much harder than it really is- trust me.  You just need some time and patience, but it is very understandable.

I will not be creating websites with this info, but the knowledge is important to make necessary tweaks and edit to website HTML in order to optimize the sites with appropriate data (or meta-data).  The stuff hidden in the code can really increase the rankings of a site- a VERY big trick to the trade of optimizing sites.

Stay tuned for more...
